Someone I can always count on

My friends and I were able to sing to some people at the hospital today, and honestly, it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. We met so many incredible people who are facing a lot of tough things right now. It opened my eyes to how aware Heavenly Father is of each of us. He doesn’t ever forget us – not ever. We met this adorable old man who was so kind to us. He asked us to sing “Abide With Me.” One line in that song especially speaks to me, “Change and decay in all around I see; O thou who changest not, abide with me!” This man started crying in the song. He told us after that they had to cut off both of his feet, and yesterday they had to take out his gall bladder. That’s a lot of change. All of a sudden he doesn’t have his feet that he’s had his entire life. All of a sudden he has to rely on something else to move and go places. But I could see in his face that even though it's hard, he knows that God is with him and will stay with him no matter what changes. I know that there will be a lot of change in the future; that’s what life’s all about! But despite the change and the things that I can’t count on, Heavenly Father is always there, constant as the stars that are sometimes harder to see because of clouds and where we are looking from. He is our truest friend.
